17-Year-Old Killed in Johor Bahru Collision as Parents Rejects Claim that He was Riding Against Traffic

Date:

A 17-year-old Malaysian teen, Brian Tan Kai Lun, tragically died after suffering severe head injuries in a motorcycle collision in Johor Bahru on Monday night. The victim’s parents have alleged that a companion of the other rider falsely claimed their son had been riding against traffic.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 10.30pm near Princess Cove along Jalan Sultan Ismail. Tan, an only child from Melaka working in the food and beverage industry in Johor Bahru, was rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.

In a Facebook post, Tan’s mother stated that her son collided with a 23-year-old Indian motorcyclist while riding in the same direction. She denied the claim that Tan had been travelling the wrong way and alleged that the other rider had repositioned her son’s motorcycle to support the false accusation.

“If my son had really been riding against traffic, why would his body fall backward and to the right, while the motorcycle was neatly positioned facing the opposite lane?” she questioned.

Tan’s father also claimed that police informed him his son had been struck from behind with enough force to throw him from the first to the third lane. However, the official police statement only mentioned that both motorcycles lost control and fell onto the road.

Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, confirmed that both riders were travelling in the same direction from Stulang towards Skudai. While the other rider, who works as a cleaner in Singapore, survived, Tan died from severe head injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.
