One Man Missing, Another Survives After Boat Capsizes in Sarawak

Date:

A fisherman is missing while another survived after both were flung into the sea when their boat was hit by strong waves near Tanjung Sirik, Pulau Bruit, in Daro yesterday.

Matu-Daro District Police chief DSP Rahim Mihos said the missing victim has been identified as 59-year-old Aldin Rakli. The survivor, 42-year-old Kaharruddin Buang, later filed a police report on the incident.

According to Rahim, the accident occurred around 9am when the duo were travelling from Kampung Betanak to Kuala Matu via Tanjung Sirik. A sudden wave struck their boat, throwing both men overboard.

“Both attempted to swim toward the shore, but the complainant’s brother-in-law could not be located and remains missing,” he said in a statement.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received a distress call at 11.32am and deployed a three-member team to the location to begin search and rescue operations.
