Thailand Says Military Operations Against Cambodia Ongoing Despite Trump’s Ceasefire Claim

Date:

Thailand said today it would continue its military operations against Cambodia, despite US President Donald Trump claiming that both sides had agreed to stop fighting following separate calls with him.

Acting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Thailand would maintain its military response as long as there were threats to the country’s security.

“Thailand will continue to perform military actions until we feel there is no longer any harm or threat to our land and people,” he said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Bangkok’s joint press centre confirmed that Thai forces had carried out retaliatory actions against Cambodian military targets at 5.50am local time (10.50pm GMT on Friday).

The statement underscored Thailand’s position that military operations remain necessary, contradicting claims that hostilities between the two neighbours had ceased.
