Singer-Actor Naim Daniel Goes on Trial Over Alleged Sexual Assault of 17-Year-Old

Date:

The trial of singer and actor Naim Daniel, who is charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl, began today at the Sessions Court.

The three-day trial is being presided over by Sessions Court Judge Datin M. Kunasundary. The court has permitted a prosecution witness to testify via video link after considering submissions from both parties and granting the prosecution’s application.

Naim is accused of physically sexually assaulting the teenager at a hotel in Petaling Jaya at around 8:56 a.m. on May 19. He pleaded not guilty to the charge on June 17 and later stated, “I am committed to clearing my name.”

The case is being prosecuted under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

Despite the ongoing court proceedings, Naim has continued his artistic activities. His lawyer, Mohd Irwan Sumadi, confirmed that there is currently no court order or legal restriction preventing the singer from performing.
