Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today that the Special Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed amid escalating tensions along the Thailand–Cambodia border and growing concerns that the conflict could worsen.
The meeting, originally planned for Tuesday, was intended to bring Asean member states together to seek a solution to the ongoing dispute, which has reportedly claimed dozens of lives on both sides. However, Anwar said both Thailand and Cambodia had requested that the talks be temporarily deferred.
“We are still coordinating. There is a slight postponement of the foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for Tuesday as we are trying to get everything in order,” he told reporters after delivering a keynote address at a book launch here.
Anwar added that Malaysia continues to urge both sides to halt the fighting, acknowledging that the situation remains challenging.
“We are appealing to them to stop the fighting, which is very difficult,” he said, noting that Malaysia has maintained daily contact with both Thailand and Cambodia as efforts to ease the tensions continue.
