Man Arrested for Luring Protected Birds in Selangor Forest

Date:

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has detained a 36-year-old man for allegedly luring birds from protected species along Jalan Kuala Klawang–Genting Peres–Semenyih on Wednesday.

Perhilitan director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said the activity was detected around 4.40pm during the Integrated Khazanah Operation (OBK) Series 12/2025 for the Southern Zone.

Preliminary investigations revealed the suspect was carrying out bird-luring activities in a forested area without a valid permit or licence from Perhilitan.

“Further inspection led to the discovery of wildlife believed to include raptors and leafbirds. The operation team seized a cage, a sack, a mobile phone, a motorcycle, and keys,” Abdul Kadir said in a statement today.

The arrest was carried out jointly by Perhilitan, the General Operations Force (PGA) Battalion 4, and the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU).

Investigations also indicated that the suspect had been actively luring birds in forest areas around Ampang and Hulu Langat. He was last believed to have carried out the activity on Monday prior to his arrest. Some of the birds were kept, while others were sold via WhatsApp status updates.

The suspect was taken to the Ampang Jaya police station for further action. The total value of the seized items is estimated at RM9,460.
