Four Thai civilians, including two students, were killed and several others injured in two separate incidents after Cambodian rockets struck communities in Surin and Si Sa Ket provinces on Thursday morning.
In Surin’s Kap Choeng district, two BM-21 rockets fired from Cambodia hit a village at around 9:40 AM while residents were waiting to be evacuated. Four people were injured—two of whom later died in hospital: a 12-year-old child and an adult. Authorities had been evacuating up to 40,000 residents from 86 villages to emergency shelters in Prasat district, with most evacuees safely relocated. Officials have not been able to inspect the attack site due to ongoing cross-border artillery fire.
In a separate incident in Si Sa Ket’s Kanthararak district, two students were killed when rockets hit a supermarket at a petrol station in Ban Phue. Fire and Rescue Thailand confirmed the deaths, and Thaipbs reported that the students’ bodies were found in the wreckage.
Meanwhile, in Kap Choeng district, patients were being moved from Phanom Dong Rak and Kap Choeng hospitals after rockets landed near the Ta Muen temple ruins. The 2nd Army Region shared video footage of the incident on its official Facebook page at 11:30 AM.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border escalate.
