Forty passengers escaped injury when a double-decker express bus crashed into the rear of a lorry on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) early this morning.

The collision occurred at about 3.45am as the bus was travelling northbound. Only the bus driver suffered leg injuries, while all passengers and the lorry driver were reported to be safe.

A Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department received an emergency call at 3.48am, with firefighters arriving at the scene at 4.17am.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel found the bus had rammed into the lorry, which was travelling in the left lane. The bus driver was trapped in his seat and had to be extricated by firemen.

He was later taken to Rembau Hospital for treatment. The 40 passengers managed to exit the bus on their own shortly after the crash, and no other injuries were reported.
