“Complete Silence”: Nooryana Najwa Alleges Authorities Ignored Najib’s House Arrest Addendum

Date:

Following a statement from Datuk Mohamad Nizar, sister Nooryana Najwa has spoken out regarding her father, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, and his bid to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.

In a Facebook post, Nooryana said the family spent three months trying to confirm the status and enforceability of the royal addendum issued for Najib. She alleged that letters sent by Najib to the Attorney General’s Chambers and other relevant ministries and agencies went unanswered.

“No response. Complete silence,” she wrote, stressing that her father had been hesitant to bring the matter to court.

High Court judge Alice Loke Yee Ching had ruled that the addendum order was invalid, stating it was not deliberated or decided in the 61st Pardons Board meeting and did not comply with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.

Nooryana added that Najib’s decision to approach the courts was a last resort. “He was acutely aware that public disclosure would heighten sensitivities, especially given the existing attempts to obscure the truth. To what lengths would the parties opposed to the addendum’s disclosure go to deny DSN his rights?”

The family maintains that the move to the courts was necessary to assert Najib’s rights and seek clarity on the royal addendum.
