Social Welfare Dept Clarifies that Senior Citizen Card Info on Social Media is False

Date:

The Social Welfare Department (JKM) has clarified that no official Malaysian Senior Citizen Cards have been issued, following the spread of false information on social media and WhatsApp.

In a statement today, JKM warned that the misinformation could mislead senior citizens and their families. The department urged the public to obtain accurate and up-to-date information only through JKM’s official channels, including its portal, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X page.

“Please ensure the information you receive is authentic and current by referring to our official platforms,” the statement read.

For inquiries or assistance with services and applications, the public can contact Talian Kasih at 15999, WhatsApp 019-261 5999 (available 24 hours), or the nearest District Social Welfare Office.

JKM also appealed for public cooperation in avoiding the spread of unverified information to safeguard community welfare.

The viral claim originated from a newspaper clipping stating that applications for Senior Citizen Cards would begin in January and that the cards would allow access to discounts at selected locations—claims that JKM confirmed are false.
