Construction Worker Killed, Another Injured After Wall Collapse at Airport Expansion Site

A construction worker was killed and another injured after a concrete wall collapsed at a construction site at the new extension of Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Kota Baru Fire and Rescue Department said emergency teams were alerted to the incident at 4.45pm.

“A team from the Pengkalan Chepa Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was dispatched and arrived at the scene at about 5.07pm,” he said.

Upon arrival, the operations commander confirmed that the incident involved two local adult male workers. One of the victims suffered a fractured leg, while the other was found unconscious at the site.

Health Ministry ambulance personnel later confirmed that the unconscious worker, a 22-year-old man, had died at the scene.

The injured worker received initial treatment before being handed over to medical personnel for further care.

The case has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.
