A recent sighting of visibly malnourished Golden Retriever puppies in a glass enclosure at a well-known pet store has ignited public outrage and renewed the call to end the sale of cats and dogs in retail shops.
The photos and account, originally shared by a concerned Malaysian who visited the store to buy pet supplies, have gone viral online, stirring anger and sadness across social media. According to the post, the puppies appeared frail and lifeless—clearly not receiving the level of care they need.
“They’ve NEVER cared for them and it’s so sad to see this still happening at all our biggest pet stores,” one user lamented. “Times like these are when cancel culture needs to take place.”
Another heartbroken commenter wrote, “UGH my heart aches seeing these babies!! We need to stoppppppo BUYING PETS!!!!!!”
While the store’s name wasn’t mentioned in the original post, others in the comments identified it and shared past experiences of poor conditions, calling it a recurring issue.
“This particular branch has been in hot water a few times before because of the poor conditions of the furkids they have there,” someone added. “This is why you should not support breeders… Do those dogs in those glass cages look any happy to you? If they are not sold, they might be put to sleep or given up for adoption by breeders with a conscience.”
One former pet taxi provider also weighed in, sharing a grim insight: “When I was talking to the person there, it seriously crushed my heart. I’m not saying people shouldn’t own breeds—but is this how you want it to be?”
The post has once again raised the debate over whether pet shops should stop selling animals altogether. Many netizens are calling for greater accountability, stricter welfare enforcement, and a cultural shift toward adoption over purchase.
As the conversation continues online, one thing is clear: more Malaysians are standing up for the voiceless—and demanding real change.
