PAS Submits Two Names to Raja of Perlis for New Menteri Besar Following Shukri Ramli’s Resignation

Date:

PAS has submitted the names of two candidates for the Perlis menteri besar position to replace Mohd Shukri Ramli, who resigned yesterday due to health reasons.

The party president, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, said the names were forwarded to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, for consideration.

“PAS still controls six seats in the state legislative assembly despite the expulsion of three of our representatives,” he said. “Bersatu holds only five seats, so we are entitled to propose a candidate for the Menteri Besar post.”

Shukri, the assemblyman for Sanglang, announced his resignation due to health concerns, effective yesterday.

Earlier this week, PAS terminated the membership of three assemblymen—Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji)—after they signed a statutory declaration that allegedly undermined the state government’s leadership.

Hadi clarified that Shukri’s resignation was solely due to health reasons, not related to the actions of eight assemblymen, including five from Bersatu, who had sought to change the Perlis menteri besar through the statutory declaration.

He also said PAS is prepared for a possible Perlis by-election, as well as by-elections in the three state constituencies where the expelled assemblymen held seats.

When asked if the expelled trio could appeal, Hadi said: “They may submit an appeal, but it is up to us to decide whether to accept it or not. They committed a serious offence against the party and violated the bai’ah.”
