High Court: Jho Low Acted as Proxy for Najib in 1MDB Dealings, Judge Rules

Date:

The High Court today ruled that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, widely known as Jho Low, acted as a proxy for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Presiding judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, delivering his verdict in Najib’s 1MDB corruption trial, said there was overwhelming evidence that Low’s instructions were treated by 1MDB executives as coming directly from Najib.

Prosecution witnesses testified that Low’s emails, talking points, and directives were integral to 1MDB’s operations, guiding major transactions including the PetroSaudi joint venture, energy acquisitions, and fund management, the judge said.

“These communications were issued in the ordinary course of business and directed key decisions at 1MDB,” Sequerah added.

The court adjourned for Friday prayers and will resume at 3pm. Earlier, the judge had indicated he would require at least an hour and a half to complete reading his broad judgment.
