Newly Sworn In Perlis MB Abu Bakar Hamzah Cuts Own Salary by RM3,000 to Ease State Finances

Date:

Newly appointed Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah has announced a voluntary RM3,000 monthly salary cut to help reduce the state government’s financial burden. He also plans a proposed RM1,500 reduction for incoming state executive council (exco) members following a reshuffle.

Speaking at the Menteri Besar’s Office at Kompleks Seri Putra today, Abu Bakar emphasized that the move reflects a commitment to serve the state and its people. “For ordinary folks, even earning RM500 a month is a heavy burden. I am making this cut willingly so that people can see the sacrifices we are prepared to make to develop the state,” he said.

Abu Bakar, who was sworn in before the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail yesterday, said discussions on new exco appointments will consider the state’s budget and aim to balance leadership between PAS and Bersatu within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

The new administration will be guided by the “3B” concept — Bangkit (Rise), Bingkas (Act Swiftly), and Buat (Deliver) — to ensure Perlis progresses alongside other states despite limited revenue. “We must rise from complacency, weaknesses, laziness and the like. This is the inspiration for us to jointly develop Perlis,” he added.
