Goodbye Neckties! MoE Makes Big Change For School Students

Date:

The Education Ministry (MoE) has announced that students will no longer be required to wear neckties to school starting next year.

The decision was outlined in a circular dated Dec 17, following the MoE’s 2025 Special Professional Meeting held on Dec 8. The circular was signed by the Director-General of Education, Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.

However, the ministry clarified that students may still wear neckties if it is mutually agreed upon by the school and parents. It also stressed that no student should be coerced or pressured into wearing one.

“The MoE is always mindful of parents’ need to prepare their children’s school necessities ahead of the new school session,” the ministry said.

The policy takes into account factors such as the local hot and humid climate, which can make wearing neckties daily uncomfortable. It also aims to ease household financial burdens, the circular added.
