The Perak state government has given electronic cigarette and vape traders until October this year to cease operations, following its decision to ban the sale of such products statewide.
State Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee chairman Datuk A. Sivanesan said the grace period is intended as a transitional measure to allow affected traders time to prepare for full enforcement.
He explained that some operators are still holding valid business licences that have yet to expire, prompting the state to provide temporary leeway.
During this period, traders are expected to clear existing stock and gradually wind down their operations.
The Perak government had previously announced on Oct 1 last year that the sale of electronic cigarettes and vape products would be banned at all business premises within local authority areas, with enforcement beginning on Jan 1 this year.
Sivanesan cautioned that the grace period should not be misused, warning that strict action would be taken against traders who attempt to continue operating illegally.
He stressed that sufficient time has been given for compliance and urged traders to respect the ban, which was implemented in the interest of public health and community safety.
