Trump Actively Discussing Buying Greenland, White House Confirms

Date:

US President Donald Trump has “actively discussed” the possibility of purchasing Greenland with his national security team, the White House confirmed on Jan 7, emphasizing that while diplomacy remains the preferred approach, military options are not being ruled out.

“That’s something that’s currently being actively discussed by the president and his national security team,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said when asked about a potential US offer to buy the Danish territory.

She added, “His team is currently talking about what a potential purchase would look like.”

Leavitt reiterated that Trump views acquiring Greenland as aligned with US national security interests. “He believes it is in the best interest of the United States to deter Russian and Chinese aggression in the Arctic region. That is why his team is discussing what a potential purchase would entail.”

When asked why Trump would not rule out military action against a fellow NATO member, Leavitt said, “That’s not something this president does. All options are always on the table for President Trump. But I will just say, the president’s first option, always, has been diplomacy.”
