Feb 2 Declared Holiday For KL, Putrajaya And Labuan Civil Servants

Date:

Civil servants working in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan will be granted a replacement public holiday on Monday, February 2, following the overlap of Federal Territory Day and Thaipusam on Sunday, February 1.

The Public Service Department (PSD) said the decision is in line with Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act 1951, which stipulates that if a public holiday falls on a weekly rest day, the following day shall be observed as a public holiday.

The PSD explained that although Federal Territory Day and Thaipusam fall on the same date, civil servants in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will observe only one replacement holiday on February 2.

For civil servants in Labuan, the replacement holiday for Federal Territory Day, which also falls on Sunday, will likewise be observed on February 2.

The PSD clarified that the replacement holiday arrangement announced earlier by the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department for private sector employees does not apply to civil servants.

Previously, the Labour Department stated that Federal Territory Day is a compulsory public holiday for private sector employers in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, and cannot be replaced, in accordance with the Employment Act 1955.
