A former mudir of a tahfiz centre in Dungun has been remanded for five days to assist investigations into alleged sexual offences involving three of his former male students.
The 26-year-old suspect was remanded until Thursday after the order was granted by Dungun Magistrate Ng Yan Ni at the Dungun Magistrates’ Court today.
Dungun district police chief Superintendent Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said the suspect, who is currently working as a part-time Quran memorisation teacher at a religious school in the district, was arrested at his home in Paka at around 11pm yesterday.
He said the arrest followed three reports lodged by the alleged victims, who were aged between 13 and 14 at the time of the alleged incidents last year.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect allegedly instructed the victims to engage in sexual acts involving him.
“The alleged acts are believed to have occurred separately at the tahfiz centre between April and September last year,” he said today.
Nik Ab Halim said the suspect had stopped teaching at the tahfiz centre after it closed in October last year.
The case is being investigated under Sections 14(b) and 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
