No Move for Now: Dr Sim Confirms He’ll Stay in Batu Kawah Amid Election Rumours

Date:

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has dismissed speculation that he might switch constituencies for the upcoming Sarawak state election, affirming that he will remain in Batu Kawah and has no plans to contest Pending.

Speaking after attending the Mazu Statue Consecration Ceremony at Qing Shan Temple in Muara Tebas, Dr Sim said he was unaware of the source of the rumours and clarified that such a move “isn’t happening.” He added that both he and the Batu Kawah constituents are satisfied with their longstanding relationship.

“People are happy with me, and I’m happy in Batu Kawah. That’s the answer already,” he said. Dr Sim highlighted Batu Kawah as a rapidly developing satellite area of Kuching that requires continuity in leadership for ongoing and planned development projects.

When asked about his commitment to the constituency, he reiterated that the mutual support between him and local residents “speaks for itself.”

Meanwhile, Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the rumours likely stemmed from comments made during his “Shall WEE Talk” Facebook Live session last Saturday, noting that online remarks are often amplified without context.

“A responsible candidate or representative should not simply move from one place to another,” Wee said, stressing that elected officials have a duty to voters who placed their trust in them. He warned against treating politics as a game of “conquering” seats and urged leaders to fulfil their responsibilities to their constituencies.

With the state election approaching, Wee advised the public not to overreact to unverified remarks, saying, “All sorts of speculation will arise, but there is no need to overinterpret unverified comments.”
