A used plastic recycling company has been fined RM100,000 by the Klang Sessions Court for illegally storing scheduled waste without approval six years ago.
Golden Mile Plastic Resources Sdn Bhd, represented by its director, pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read before Judge Sharifah Hascindie Syed Omar on Wednesday.
Selangor Environment Department director Datuk Wandi Yadzid Yaakob said inspections conducted at the company’s premises along Jalan Sungai Jati, Klang, on June 29, 2020, uncovered piles of plastic scrap mixed with electronic circuit board fragments.
“These materials are classified as scheduled waste under code SW110 and were found at the raw material reception area of the premises,” he said in a statement.
Further investigations revealed that the company did not have approval from the Environment Department to store scheduled waste at the site.
Wandi Yadzid said the company was charged under Section 34B(1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
He added that the department had urged the court to impose a firm sentence to deter the company and other industry players from illegally handling scheduled waste without proper authorisation.
