Popular Malaysian singer Mow Yee Hsian, 46, has passed away on Thursday (7 January) after a more than four-year battle with cancer. Her final performance came last year when she fulfilled her wish of winning the junior group championship of 好声Family (Family Singing Show) alongside her 8-year-old daughter.
According to China Press, Mow was known for her passion for singing and had won numerous competitions both in Malaysia and abroad. Despite being shuttled between hospital and home for cancer treatment, and facing challenges as radiotherapy affected her vocal cords, she remained determined to compete and achieve this meaningful victory with her daughter.
Mow had been diagnosed with late-stage colorectal cancer, and although she underwent treatment to control the disease, the cancer metastasised to other parts of her body.
Her husband, also a popular singer, shared the news on Facebook, saying: “Dear 8687 family, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you that our beloved Mow Yee Hsian passed away peacefully last night. Thank you for the companionship and love you gave us throughout your life. Now, she has been freed from suffering, her life is complete, and she has been reborn in the pure land of ultimate bliss. May Mow Yee Hsian rest in peace, transform into gentle light and live forever in our hearts.”
