Yesterday, Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, made history by storming into the Malaysia Open 2026 final at a packed Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil. The second-seeded duo defeated sixth-seeded Indonesians Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in a thrilling semi-final.

The match began with a nail-biting first game, tied at 21-21, before Aaron-Wooi Yik edged it 23-21. In the second game, they fell behind 10-12 but recovered strongly to take the set 21-18, sealing the match after 50 minutes of intense action. The win sends the home crowd into a frenzy and marks their first Malaysia Open final appearance.

Today, the pair is preparing for a historic final against top seeds and defending champions Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea. The Korean duo reached their second consecutive Malaysia Open final yesterday after overcoming an opening-game loss to England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy, winning 8-21, 21-11, 21-18.

Aaron Chia reflected on yesterday’s victory, expressing joy at reaching back-to-back finals on home soil and recalling last year’s narrow loss at the Malaysia Masters to compatriots Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun.

As of today, fans eagerly await the final showdown, with both pairs having an even 1-1 head-to-head record, making today’s clash anyone’s game.
