Residents at a high-rise apartment in Farlim, Penang, were shaken after a young woman died in a fatal fall on Thursday morning.
Chinese-language dailies Oriental Daily and China Press reported that the incident occurred at about 11.30am. The victim, identified as 27-year-old Chen Shuqing (name transliterated), was living at the apartment with her boyfriend.
Initial investigations indicate that Chen had returned home with her younger brother shortly before the incident and became involved in an argument with her boyfriend. During the confrontation, she allegedly opened the window grille and fell from the 17th floor.
Neighbours who heard a loud impact went to investigate and discovered her body on the roof of the building’s fourth floor.
Police later arrived and cordoned off the area to facilitate investigations. Chen’s boyfriend and brother have been questioned to help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Her body has been sent to the Penang General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
