A hotpot restaurant in Chongqing, China, has come under fire after a customer discovered a construction glove in their fish hotpot on Sunday (11 January).
The shocking find left diners stunned, with one customer remarking, “This is unbelievable. I’ve never eaten something like this before.”
According to the shop’s owner, the glove had been placed on a chopping board and accidentally fell into the hotpot. She said the staff member on duty was young and inexperienced, and only offered the customers a discount instead of cancelling the bill altogether.
The owner added that she later contacted the diners and offered to invite them back for another meal to make up for the incident.
While the restaurant’s name has not been disclosed, the incident has sparked widespread criticism online. Many Chinese netizens said finding a glove in food was unacceptable and raised serious concerns about hygiene.
“Who would dare go back after this?” one user commented. “Just thinking about it already makes me feel sick.”
Others questioned the cleanliness of the kitchen, saying the incident suggested poor food safety standards at the restaurant.
