“May You be Happy in Heaven”: Daughter’s Final Message to Late Mum who Sang with her in Competition

Date:

Popular Malaysian street singer Mow Yee Hsian, fondly known as “The Queen of Street Singing”, has died after a long battle with cancer.

Mow, 46, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2019. The disease later spread throughout her body. Despite her worsening condition, she remained determined to create lasting memories for her young daughter.

Last year, Mow decided to take part in the junior edition of 好声Family (Family Singing Show) together with her then seven-year-old daughter. The mother-daughter duo went on to win the competition, a moment Mow described as one of the most meaningful achievements of her life.

According to Oriental Daily, Mow joined the competition so that she could “leave behind memories that her daughter would cherish for a lifetime”. She said she had already fulfilled her dream of singing as a “husband and wife team”, and was grateful she could now perform as a “mother and daughter team”.

Not long after the competition ended, her health deteriorated. Mow passed away on January 7.

More than 100 people attended her funeral, China Press reported. During the service, messages Mow had written for her family and friends were read aloud, including advice she had prepared for her daughter on how to live well.

Her husband vowed to turn his grief into strength. Although Mow’s daughter remained composed during the ceremony, she was seen wiping away tears as it went on. In a final message to her mother, she wrote: “May you be happy in heaven.”
