Petra Jaya Man Jailed 12 Months for Hitting Wife on Head with Mobile Phone

A 50-year-old man, Palli Jite, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife with a mobile phone.

Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali convicted Palli under Section 323 of the Penal Code read with Section 326A. Section 323 carries a maximum of one year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, while Section 326A allows imprisonment of up to twice the term for the underlying offence.

The incident occurred at their home in Bandar Baru Samariang, Petra Jaya at 1:15 a.m. last Thursday. During an argument, Palli struck his wife on the head with a mobile phone, causing a laceration to her occipital region, according to a medical report.

The victim later filed a police report, prompting Palli’s arrest. Investigations revealed the dispute arose after Palli questioned his wife’s duties as a spouse.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, noting the victim’s statement that Palli often behaved aggressively when intoxicated. Palli appeared in court without legal representation.
