An 86-year-old woman from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, passed away yesterday at the local hospital, never seeing her 48-year-old son, Li Ming Wong, who has been missing for over 15 years. Her family is appealing for him to return in time to attend her funeral on Friday, January 16, and pay his last respects.
The late Ye Bao Xin’s funeral rites are being held at the Bukit Mertajam Funeral Parlour, with her burial scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday at the Bukit Mertajam Zhujiao public cemetery.
Her granddaughter, Lee Ai Ling, 40, shared that her grandmother spent her final hours hoping to reunite with her youngest son, but he never appeared. “Although our grandmother has passed, we still hope that he sees the missing person notices online and comes back to Penang to accompany her on her final journey,” she said.
After posting appeals on social media and in newspapers, the family has received some tips from the public, but Li Ming Wong’s whereabouts remain unknown. Lee added that friends of Li had contacted the family two years ago, revealing that he was living an unstable life without a permanent residence.
Li Ming Wong, originally from Bukit Mertajam, left home after conflicts with his family more than 15 years ago, and the family has been searching for him ever since. The recent online appeals were made to try to fulfill his mother’s final wish.
