Three Arrested After 29 Dogs Found Dead in Bags at Home Backyard

Date:

Three people were arrested in Lee County, Alabama, after authorities discovered dozens of dogs dead or severely neglected at a home in the Beauregard community.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said officers were called to a house along Lee Road 146 at about 10.45am on Monday, Jan 12, after a neighbour reported concerns about the animals. When deputies arrived, they found 29 dogs dead and stuffed into plastic bags in the backyard. Another 24 dogs were located inside the home in a severely emaciated condition.

Those arrested were Curtis Dewayne Haralson, 63, Patricia Ann Sims, 64, and Tiffany Ann Sims, 27, who were all living at the property. They were taken into custody and booked into Lee County Jail while investigations continue.

Lee County Animal Control has since removed the surviving dogs from the home to provide care and treatment. The dogs ranged in age from puppies to fully grown adults.

Although no formal charges have yet been filed, the sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and is expected to lead to felony charges against all three individuals.
