A 24-year-old Malaysian man has gone missing after allegedly falling in love with a “Chinese woman” he met while playing the mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, sparking fears that he may have become a victim of an online scam.
The missing man, Mohammad Nazrin, was said to have met the woman through the game before the two moved their conversations to Telegram, where they became romantically involved.
His elder brother, Hadif, 43, said Nazrin became obsessed with meeting the woman in person and had previously tried to run away from home to find her.
“He first left home at about 10pm on December 17. I found him at Suria KLCC at 3am the next day and brought him back,” Hadif told reporters at a press conference held with the Malaysian International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO).
Despite promising not to run away again, Nazrin allegedly slipped out of the house on the morning of January 22 while his brother was showering. He has not been heard from since.
Hadif said Nazrin’s friends later revealed that the woman had been sending him suggestive and sexually provocative videos via Telegram, raising serious red flags.
The family has checked with the Immigration Department, which confirmed there is no record of Nazrin leaving the country. They now fear he may have been lured into a scam or trafficking trap.
Anyone who sees Mohammad Nazrin is urged to contact MHO’s hotline at 019-538 0000 immediately.
