A man was caught on CCTV stealing women’s underwear from a staircase landing in Yishun, leaving a resident alarmed and worried about safety in the neighbourhood.
The incident took place on Jan. 14 at about 5.26pm. According to a resident who spoke on behalf of the victim, five pieces of women’s underwear were taken in the latest theft.
CCTV footage showed a man dressed in a white long-sleeve shirt and pants walking up to a laundry rack placed at a staircase landing. He went straight for the underwear, removing all the items that were clipped to the rack.
As he took the garments, the man was seen looking around several times, seemingly to check whether anyone was watching, before leaving the area with the stolen items.
The resident said this was not the first time the victim had been targeted. On Jan. 5, one piece of her underwear went missing under similar circumstances.
After that incident, the family installed CCTV cameras on Jan. 13. Just a day later, the man was caught on camera during the second theft.
The repeated incidents have left the victim feeling uneasy and cautious about her surroundings. A police report has since been lodged.
