A woman in her 50s in Shangqiu, Henan province, has gone viral after staging an unusual protest by lying outside a restaurant for four days following a dispute over compensation.
According to Jimunews, the woman had been working at a restaurant in a public square when she got into an argument with a chef. She later chose to resign from her job.
However, after failing to obtain the compensation she believed she was entitled to, the woman began protesting by lying at the entrance of the restaurant. Videos shared online show her wearing a light-coloured padded jacket and a hat, lying motionless on the ground outside the eatery.
The restaurant clarified in a notice placed at the entrance that the woman was a former employee who had worked there for 17 days. The notice stated that she resigned voluntarily due to dissatisfaction with the chef’s management, and that her wages had already been fully paid.
Despite this, the woman continued her protest, remaining outside the restaurant for four consecutive days.
The restaurant said it has reported the matter to the police, who are currently mediating the dispute. To prevent further complications, the restaurant also placed a large warning sign in red lettering reading: “Please do not touch this woman.”

The incident has sparked widespread discussion online over labour disputes and unconventional forms of protest.
