A young couple fought back after being robbed in Johor, chasing their attackers for nearly two kilometres before ramming the suspects’ motorcycle in a dramatic early-morning incident.
The robbery occurred at about 3.30am in a secluded area of Bandar Jaya Putra, involving an 18-year-old waiter and his 19-year-old girlfriend. The couple were sitting inside a car when they were approached by two men on a motorcycle.
According to police, the suspects demanded the victim’s identity card before threatening the couple with an object believed to resemble a taser. They then escaped on a black motorcycle, taking two iPhones and a wallet.
Refusing to back down, the victim pursued the suspects in his car for about 2km. The chase ended when the suspects attempted a U-turn, allowing the car to crash into their motorcycle and cause it to skid.
Both suspects managed to flee the scene on foot and remain at large.
Johor Baru South police chief ACP Raub Selamat said efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects. The stolen items are estimated to be worth RM7,000.
The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery, offences that carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison and whipping if convicted.
