Rapper Namewee Pleads Not Guilty to Meth, Sildenafil Possession Charges

Rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, pleaded not guilty today at the Magistrate’s Court to an additional charge of possessing Sildenafil at a hotel last year.

The 43-year-old is accused of possessing 0.78 grams of Sildenafil at a hotel room on Jalan Conlay at 4:30 PM on October 22. He denied the charge.

The charge falls under Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000, up to five years’ imprisonment, or both under Section 32(2) if convicted.

Namewee also pleaded not guilty to an amended charge of possessing 1.57 grams of methamphetamine at the same location, date, and time, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. A conviction under Section 12(3) of the same act carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, up to five years’ imprisonment, or both.

Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim set March 5 for the next case mention and maintained the RM2,000 bail previously granted.

The prosecution is handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal, while Namewee is represented by lawyer Joshua Tay.

Previously, on December 22 last year, Magistrate S. Arunjothy acquitted and released Namewee from a charge of administering drugs into his body after the prosecution informed the court that the pathology results were negative and withdrew the charge.
