Two Killed, Two Seriously Injured In Early-Morning Federal Highway Crash

Date:

Two people were killed and two others seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Federal Highway heading towards Klang early yesterday morning.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said the crash occurred at about 4.20am when a Honda HR-V, driven by a 50-year-old man, rammed into the rear of a Proton Suprima driven by a woman in her 20s in the rightmost lane.

He said that following the initial collision, three individuals exited their vehicles and were standing on the road when they were struck by a Mercedes-Benz, which was believed to have been unable to avoid them.

The driver and a passenger of the Honda HR-V were killed at the scene, while the Proton Suprima driver and the Mercedes driver sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment.

Post-mortem examinations confirmed that both victims died from head and bodily injuries resulting from the crash. Ramsay added that investigations revealed the deceased man and woman were friends and not husband and wife.

Blood and urine samples have been taken from the Mercedes driver for chemical analysis, and police are still awaiting the full report.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police have urged witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation. Those with information may contact investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Najib Abdul Rahman at 019-7757354.

Footage of the incident had earlier gone viral on social media, showing a car believed to be the Mercedes crashing into a stationary vehicle on the highway.
