Tahfiz Warden to Be Charged Over Caning of 11-Year-Old Student

Date:

A warden at a maahad tahfiz in Sungai Kob, who is suspected of caning an 11-year-old student last September, will be charged at the magistrate’s court here today.

The 27-year-old man will be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Police previously confirmed that the incident shown in a video that recently went viral on social media took place at a maahad tahfiz in Sungai Kob, Kulim, in September last year.

The incident occurred on Sept 29 and involved an 11-year-old male student who was allegedly caned by the warden for disturbing other students during study time.

The student, who is from Padang Serai, had been enrolled at the religious school for about seven months at the time. The case came to light when the boy’s parents noticed bruises on his body when they went to pick him up.

Following the discovery, the child’s father lodged a police report on Oct 3 last year.

A maahad tahfiz is a religious school that focuses on Quranic studies and Islamic teachings.
