Pontian Police Bust Married Couple Over Human Trafficking, Meth & Ecstasy Haul

Date:

A married couple has been arrested in Kampung Parit Haji Yassin, Benut, Pontian, over suspected involvement in human trafficking and drug distribution, following a joint operation by the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) and Narcotics Crime Division (BSJN) of the Pontian District Police Headquarters.

Pontian District Police Chief, Superintendent Hadzrat Hussein Mion Hussain, said the arrests stemmed from intelligence gathered after several suspects were detained in Sungai Boh, Serkat, on January 17.

During a coordinated raid under Op Pintas and Op Tapis at 1:20 pm yesterday, the couple—an Indonesian man, 32, and his wife, 35—were apprehended. Authorities seized multiple items, including four mobile phones, a sling bag, 500 ecstasy pills weighing approximately 184.54 grams, and 231.77 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Hadzrat Hussein confirmed that the couple is linked to the earlier January 17 arrests. Urine tests showed both tested positive for methamphetamine.

The man is suspected of acting as a land broker and was detained under Section 4(5) of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA), while his wife was arrested under Section 52(5)(B) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
