Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made his first public appearance today since his recent hospitalization, enjoying a quiet coffee outing at Pavilion Damansara.
The 100-year-old statesman, dressed in a short-sleeved collared shirt and traditional kain pelekat, was seen seated in a wheelchair at a café in the shopping mall.
His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, shared that the outing marked an important milestone in Dr Mahathir’s recovery.
“He’s out having coffee at Pavilion Damansara. It’s his first public outing 22 days after his admission,” Sufi said.
Dr Mahathir was admitted for treatment and observation following a hip fracture sustained in a fall at his home on January 6. His hospitalization raised concern among Malaysians given his age and medical history.
Today’s outing, with close assistance, offered reassurance to the public and his supporters, who have been closely monitoring his condition.
As Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister, Dr Mahathir continues to command public attention, with his health and recovery widely followed nationwide.
