Dewan Rakyat Erupts as PM Anwar Rebukes MPs for Insulting Comments

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s rebuke of opposition MPs over disrespectful remarks regarding the Malaysia-Indonesia border issue sparked uproar in the Dewan Rakyat today.

During a special parliamentary briefing on the Malaysia-Indonesia border alignment, Anwar denied opposition claims that he had betrayed the country over the matter, emphasising that such allegations needed to be corrected.

He urged opposition MPs to seek clarification if they were unsure about the issue instead of resorting to insults. “I hope the Members of Parliament who made insulting and disrespectful statements—including those from Pendang—if you don’t know, just ask. Don’t resort to cursing,” he said.

The session turned chaotic when Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) invoked Dewan Rule 36 (12), arguing that the Prime Minister’s accusations of offensive behaviour were unparliamentary.

Other opposition MPs, including Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut), Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang), and Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang), also rose to express disagreement with Anwar’s comments.
