A Malaysian teacher at the Main Turus III grade can earn a maximum monthly salary of up to RM28,560, according to the official Finance Ministry portal.
The figures were shared on Threads by user @bennaweys, who posted a screenshot showing the salary scale for key teaching positions based on the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) appendix.

“How much can a teacher earn per month? Let’s explore the salary of Malaysia’s top-grade teachers. The maximum salary for a Turus III teacher is RM28,560 per month. Meanwhile, the maximum salary for an Excellent School Principal, Special Grade C, is RM22,040 per month,” the post’s caption read.
This shows that teachers reaching the highest Turus grade can actually earn more than some school principals.
The post also highlighted salaries for other management and professional grades, with Main Turus I officers earning up to RM34,360 monthly and Special Turus I up to RM33,950.
Social media users reacted with surprise and curiosity at the high salary potential.
“One teacher saves part of their salary while doing part-time tuition work. With dedication, they use their earnings for retirement savings and medical expenses,” wrote Shikin.
“The maximum is achievable, but it’s not easy to reach the grade. Some teachers serve over 20 years and become senior teachers, yet retire on only about RM6,000 per month,” commented Zubair.
“Those salaries are substantial, and the pensions are attractive too,” added Afif Hafizin.
