Severe Weather Alert Issued for Selangor, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak

Date:

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a short-term thunderstorm warning for several parts of the country, cautioning of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms expected to persist until 7pm today.
According to the department, the advisory affects selected areas in Kedah, Perak, Terengganu and Pahang, in addition to parts of Selangor and Johor. The weather authority said unstable atmospheric conditions are contributing to the development of intense convective storms across multiple regions.
In East Malaysia, wide swathes of Sarawak and Sabah are also experiencing similar weather patterns. Districts under the warning include Johor Bahru, Segamat, Kuala Langat, Sepang, Kuantan and Pekan, as well as several locations along Sabah’s west coast and interior.
MetMalaysia explained that thunderstorm alerts are issued when rainfall intensity is recorded or forecast to exceed 20 millimetres per hour, a level that can increase the risk of flash floods, fallen trees and hazardous road conditions. Such short-term advisories are a key tool to help the public prepare for rapidly changing weather.
Members of the public in affected areas are urged to remain vigilant, limit outdoor activities where possible and monitor official updates, as weather conditions may change quickly during the inter-monsoon period.
