Johor Grab Driver Arrested After Sexual Harassment Video Goes Viral

Date:

Johor police have confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old local man in connection with a sexual assault case involving a Vietnamese woman, which went viral on social media on Monday.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said a police report was filed on Wednesday by the victim, who claimed she was sexually assaulted by a ride-hailing driver inside the vehicle used by the suspect.

“Acting on the information, police detained the man in Johor Bahru on the same day and seized evidence, including two mobile phones, a Perodua Bezza car, its keys, and a remote control,” he said.

The suspect was brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for a remand application. The court approved a three-day remand until February 7 to facilitate investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code.

The case gained attention after a video surfaced showing a ride-hailing driver harassing a female passenger. The clip, recorded by the passenger herself, showed the driver reaching back to touch the woman, but she pushed his hand away.

On Tuesday, Transport Minister Anthony Loke instructed the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to revoke the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence of the Grab driver involved. The revocation means the driver is no longer permitted to operate on any ride-hailing platform.
