A 48-year-old labourer was sentenced to six months in jail at the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to injuring his father last Monday.
The accused, Yusmainy Husain, admitted to deliberately causing harm to his 78-year-old father, Husain Mahmood, at Kampung Pauh, Pengkalan Chepa, at around noon on 2 February.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code read with Section 326A, which carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to court records, the incident occurred when Yusmainy attempted to take his motorcycle in front of his father, prompting an argument. After his father retaliated verbally, Yusmainy got off the motorcycle, picked up a stick, and struck his father. Medical reports indicated the victim sustained bruises on his left arm.
The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Nabil Mohamed Asri, while the accused was represented by Nik Nazriani Nik Ab Rahman from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).
