MACC Arrests Preacher & Woman Over RM600k Payment Allegedly Linked To Abuse Of Power

Date:

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has taken an independent preacher and a woman into custody to aid investigations into an alleged abuse of power involving a RM600,000 payment to the preacher.

According to sources cited by Berita Harian, the preacher serves as the managing director of a company, while the female suspect heads its finance and accounts department. The payment was reportedly made in exchange for raising funds for an educational institution.

“They are suspected of conspiring in this offence since September 2018. The main suspect allegedly abused his position and colluded with the second suspect, who authorised the RM600,000 payment without approval from other company partners,” the source added.

Both suspects, in their 30s, were arrested around 1pm yesterday following statements at the MACC office in Sungai Petani and have been remanded. MACC launched the probe in October.

The arrests were confirmed by Kedah MACC director Nazli Rasyid Sulong.
