Kuching Scam Call Centre Busted: 6 Arrested Over Fake Online Gaming Scheme

Date:

Police have arrested six individuals, including four men and two women aged between 18 and 35, at a shophouse on Jalan Tun Jugah on Wednesday, which was allegedly being used as a scam call centre.

Kuching Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the raid led to the seizure of computers, mobile phones, SIM cards, and other devices suspected to have been used in fraudulent activities involving fictitious online gaming transactions.

“Preliminary investigations show that the syndicate ran a call centre operation, distributing fake online advertisements for non-existent games via the ‘Multi WhatsApp Warmer’ application, targeting residents in the area. All six individuals are believed to have been employed full-time in the scheme,” ACP Alexson said.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 420 and Section 120(b) of the Penal Code. All suspects were remanded for four days by the Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to assist with further inquiries.
