Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was granted “home leave” over the past two days (Feb 4 and 5), allowing him to spend nights at home while continuing his treatment and medical observation at the National Heart Institute (IJN) during the day.
Dr Mahathir’s press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, said in a statement that the centenarian had been admitted to IJN on Jan 6 for treatment of a fractured right hip following a fall at his residence in The Mines.
“The IJN medical team is satisfied with his recovery and his response to ongoing treatment and physiotherapy. While he is now allowed to return home in stages, Dr Mahathir remains under close medical supervision, and doctors advise that he should only receive visits from immediate family at this time,” Sufi added.
Dr Mahathir, along with his wife and family, also expressed gratitude to the public for their concern, prayers, and well wishes for his health.
Earlier, on July 13 last year, the former prime minister, then 100 years old, was rushed to IJN due to fatigue but was discharged the same day after a brief admission.
