Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to affect multiple parts of Malaysia today, following a weather alert issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) at 2.20pm.
The warning, valid until 6pm, covers various districts across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
In Kedah, the districts of Langkawi, Sik and Baling are expected to be affected.
In Perak, the alert applies to Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim.
The entire state of Kelantan is under alert, along with several districts in Terengganu, including Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang.
In Pahang, residents in Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong and Bera have been urged to stay cautious.
In Selangor, the affected areas include Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat. Kuala Lumpur is also forecasted to experience similar weather conditions.
The warning for Negri Sembilan covers Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin, while in Johor, Tangkak, Muar, Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru are listed.
In Sarawak, areas under warning include Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Kapit (Song), Bintulu (Bintulu), Miri (Subis) and Limbang.
Meanwhile, in Sabah, affected districts include Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan and Tambunan, as well as the west coast areas of Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran.
According to MetMalaysia, the alert is based on indications of thunderstorm activity accompanied by rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either currently happening or expected to last for more than an hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm alerts are short-term warnings, typically valid for up to six hours.
