A group of thieves reportedly kidnapped a 90-year-old woman along with her bed in an unusual robbery attempt, targeting the silver jewelry she was wearing, police said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at the home of a former village head in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, India, when the suspects broke into the residence with the intent to steal.
During the robbery, the suspects allegedly locked other family members in a room and focused on the elderly mother-in-law of the village head, who was sleeping on the veranda.
Seeing that the woman was wearing silver jewelry weighing approximately 1.5 kilograms, the thieves covered her mouth and carried her and the bed to a nearby field. The victim was then tied up by her hands and feet and left there.
Family members trapped inside the house managed to free themselves and alerted local villagers, who immediately launched a search. They found the elderly woman unharmed in the field, while the suspects had fled.
Thanks to the swift response of the family and villagers, the thieves failed to steal the woman’s silver jewelry.
Police arrived at the scene, have launched a manhunt for the suspects, and investigations are ongoing.
