RM158,000 Gold Jewellery Stolen From Johor Bahru Mall, Suspect Arrested Within 20 Minutes

Date:

A gold jewellery shop at a shopping mall in Johor Bahru suffered losses amounting to RM158,195.20 following a theft allegedly carried out by a lone male suspect.

Johor Bahru Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the suspect, a local man, was successfully arrested and the stolen jewellery was recovered during the operation.

“We managed to detain the suspect and make several seizures, including the jewellery believed to have been stolen,” he said in a statement issued today. The swift recovery helped prevent further losses and ensured the items were secured as evidence.

According to Radin Ramlan, police received information about the theft at around 5pm yesterday, prompting immediate action by officers. The 41-year-old suspect was arrested just 20 minutes later, at approximately 5.20pm, following leads obtained during initial investigations.

Checks revealed that the suspect has no prior criminal record, while an initial urine screening test also returned negative results, ruling out drug involvement at this stage. Despite this, police are continuing investigations to determine the motive behind the crime.

“The court has granted a four-day remand starting today to assist with ongoing investigations,” he added. Authorities are expected to complete further inquiries during the remand period.

Earlier, the shopping mall management confirmed in a statement that the incident occurred at 4.16pm at one of the jewellery outlets within the premises. The case has drawn public attention, highlighting the importance of rapid police response and security measures in commercial centres.
